Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Info@theliteracycollective.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Each literacy intake is individualized based on the needs of the student, but will assess spoken and written language skills across a number of areas: vocabulary, phonemic awareness, story retelling, spelling, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, following directions, decoding in real and non-words, written expression and reading fluency.  All assessments are completed with Carly Axani, SLP and Dr. Sarah Novosel-Ulbrich collaboratively.

Our intake assessment is $440.00, regardless of grade level. This assessment is for clients who are interested in intervention and is necessary so the goals and treatment plan can be established for the interventionist.

For families wanting a formal assessment with a written report they can bring to their school to support accommodations, intervention planning and IEP meetings, the cost is $1000 for students in kindergarten and grade 1, and $1340 for children in grade 2 and above.

Intervention is $100 per session. We encourage clients to sign-on for a minimum of 8 sessions to ensure tangible growth during the intervention period.

Our Literacy Intervention Intake Assessment is 60 minutes. The formal intake is anywhere from 90 minutes to 2.5 hours.

Intervention is planned for 60 minute sessions-- 50 minutes of direct intervention, and 10 minutes for the interventionist to write session notes. We are, however, sensitive to the needs of clients and that they are days they may require more or less time.

The collaborative literacy assessment is completed with a registered speech-language pathologist and literacy specialist. There are many insurance providers that offer different types of coverage for speech language pathology services.  To find out amount of coverage in your plan, contact your insurance provider directly.

Fees paid to private speech language pathologists are a tax deductible medical expense in most provinces.

Intervention provided by our interventionists is NOT covered by medical insurance.

Yes, we offer on-line, distance services for anyone that would prefer remote sessions. Although, our preference is to connect with families in-person.

The collaborative literacy assessment will occur inside of Carly Axani SLP at 6105 Currents Drive NW. Intervention is offered at the client's home. We work with specialized Literacy Interventionists that come to you for ease ad convenience.
